Greetings,
Got hooked in mid 60's by First Cousins Grandma.
She had a 12 room wooden house that the city would mount on the top of an electric pole each spring and remove each fall.
First one I built was in 1976.
It was a monster 12 room house with 2" round holes and common porches built out of 3/4" plywood.
It stood for quite a few years and we had bunches of Martins and a few EHS.
It finally rotted down in early 80's and was replaced with a two story 12 room Heath aluminum.
It stood until a few years ago when it was knocked down by someone backing into it - luckily after the season was over.
At that point I found the PMCA and started gathering info for the next season.
Started over with 16 natureline gourds with SREH.
Added 8 more the next year, just in time for the worst drought in Texas history.
Just relocated both of the gourd racks closer in and between my two houses where the old houses were located.
Been wacking Starlings and EHS this year after getting the racks up and ready.
The first housing you offered was....?

A sincere thank you to all who took the time to respond to this thread. A particular thanks to those who were able to include videos or photos of their first martin housing. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing how you all got started. I hope other readers are enjoying your stories as much as I am.
Hope others will share their stories with us.
