Thanks" I will add the foam insulation to my tool box. Last year I was using a foam drinking cup to plug the round holes wile doing nest checks, and it didn't want to stay in the hole. I was smashing the cup to make it fit into the cresent openings. I think you have a better idea.

JB offered a clarification which I did not mention in my post. As he mentioned, using the foam for nest checks, I insert the foam piece straight in and not sideways as the first picture shows. I also learned that I only need to push the foam into the crescent opening about 1/4" to 1/2". This makes it much easier to remove the plug with a gentle pull of the rope. I also learned, from experience, to use the lightest rope you can find for this procedure. I initially started with a heavier rope and on one occassion, the weight of rope pulled out one of the plugs while raising the unit.
