Still wondering about installing just a piece of 6' PVC, drain sewer, on to the front of the SG. I understand that an owl could reach back farther because it wouldn't have to reach thru a small hole to start with. He would have a 3" hole, he could probably get all the way up to his thigh. But there still would be the original hole in the SG he would have to reach thru, plus some of the length of PVC.
Another concern would a Martin except such a setup. A large long hollow cylinder before he gets to a 2" inch hole, or what ever size hole is in a SG.
The reason for my question is I hate to cut out the front of a perfectly good SG.
Thanks

Why would you not want to cut the front of a supergourd? Its no different from cutting the front of a natural gourd, I have done it, the ppca adhesive that I used holds very tightly when I installed the tunnel entrance, seems like it will hold many years..I like it much better now...

Of course, you may not want to, but I don't know the answer to your question...I think they would use it if, especially if you made the bottom so that the martins can get traction. After this photo was taken, I painted it white, it looks fine to me

Looks like your extension is flat on the bottom? Is it 3" or 4"? How would I make it rough for traction? Thanks

Its a bit over 4in...Here is how I made the 4in sewer & drain pipe tunnel. I cut off a 3in long piece, put a 4in long board into the 3in long pvc, made my delicious barbeque, and while the grill was hot, I set the pvc onto a clean spot, the bottom started colapsing in about 1 minute,
then I clamped the 4in long board to a saw horse and let it cool...

When I put the porch part way into the tunnel, I used ppca, and I smeared some on the porch and the interior of the tunnel floor, leveled it with a putty knife, and sprinkled sand on it. To make the tunnel floor have traction, smear a bit of ppca on it and sprinkle sand on it. Its worth a try to see how you like it

Then I added the entrance plate with pvc cleaner & pvc glue
