After looking at the migration map, I often wonder why don't the martins migrate to the western states except for very few. They are mostly settling further to the midwest and eastern states. Does anyone know why?

Hi Mari,
Have you gotten any more birds? Haven't heard from you all week! Is everything going okay?
There is a western martin just like there is a western bluebird. They are not included in the migration map. They don't nest in houses like "our" martins. A PMCA magazine from 2003 (I think) came with my dawnsong player, and there was a long article about how a lot of them nest inside concrete bridges. You should be able to find out about them by searching here, I think.
:o)
