I work for a company that puts safety as a first priority and they encourage us to practice it at home as well. With this training I couldn't help but to see a dangerous situation with my PM house suspended 15' in the air. I have grandchildren that visit my house and feared that they or others might play with the winch and have the house come down on them. So I bought a couple feet of rugged chain and made a figure 8 around the post and the winch handle and locked it in place. I figure if the winch did let go, the chain would tangle up and stop it in less than a half of a turn. It also adds security to it from vandals etc, but safety was my main concern. If you have curious people around your PM houses, please consider doing this too.
The couple of minutes it takes to take the chain off and put it back on each visit is well worth the peace of mind.

Might also be worth your time to drill a 3/8" - 5/16" hole through your pole 7 ft above the ground and insert a grade 1 or grade 3 bolt to catch your rack before hitting anyones head if it happens to fall. Simple to pull the bolt out of the way when lowering the housing.......just remember to reinsert the bolt through the hole after the housing clears the hole (while you are raising the house). This is good and cheap insurance.
