I'm not ready to do this but was just thinking about it . I plan on putting up a non telescoping 19 or20" pole in a socket embedded in concrete so that I have a 16' pole from grade to the top of the pole.

Other than shear manpower are their any tricks to raising the pole and stabbing the socket? I'm talking about a square tube with .146 wall,it's a little on the heavy side.

There is not any way to get any lifting equipment into my area.

Dick, I put mine up alone using 2 stepladders, put it on one stepladder, then a little higher on the 2nd steplader, etc. Of course, a couple strong men is easier. The bottom of the pole wants to slip, so my first suggestion is to put something there so the bottom will not slip along the ground, then start raising it. After you pas 45deg, it gets easier, but when you get straight up, its hard to hold so you may want to make a slot at the bottom so it easily slips into the hole. It is a very dangerous operation, you need a place to run if it starts falling.
Some people tie 2 ropes to it so they can guide it on the way up

Maybe a friend has a frontend loader, they work good, much safer, and much easier.

Will there be a way to monitor the gourds or housing? Particularly pertaining to raising and lowering the units?

BTW, where did you get the square tubing if I may ask? 8) Might be something I should look into.

Yes ,I will have a sliding carriage captive to the pole that will raise and lower. I'll have to put that on the pole along with the perch bars. The hanging bars can go on later.

I got the sq tubing at a local welding shop.
