I have been trying to get PM's for 3 years. I have a Trio MSS-12 home that I thought was too close to my large trees, so I put up a new house behind the treeline with 60 ft diameter clearance. To my surprise  , an ASY couple moved into my old home May 1. As of May 13, we have 5 eggs!! Last week a couple of SY's came by but the ASY male ran them off. Since then, I put up porch dividers. I am playing "Daytime Chatter" every day still. Should I continue to play the "Dawnsong" everyday, also? Is it too late for more SY's in my area?

Parkerdes - I would stop playing the dawn song and maybe the daytime chatter also. Your ASY pair will bring in more martins if it is not too late.

Have a great season.

Parkerdes,
I totally agree with Lanell. Your establised pair will do a great job taking over the "advertising" for potential new martins.

You setup looks great! That was a great call on getting those porch dividers!

One thing you may see, that's frustrating yet kind of funny at the same time, is when a single pair moves into a house, goes out and attracts some new martins to the site, then chases them off when they try to investigate any of the compartments! It's like they want more martins to nest with them at first, but then change their mind once their back.

I don't live in your area but I have been playing my dawnsong tape in the earlymorning and the late afternoon for about a month. I have 4 ASY pair and they don't mind it one bit. I don't play it very loud about as loud as the martins sing when excited. About 3 weeks ago I had a male subbie show up and the other martins did not like him but he stuck it out and was accepted. He has now paired up with a subbie female and are building a nest . I think putting up dividers does help. The other martins at your site will attract more birds but I think the tape won't hurt.

Good Luck

Thanks for responding!! :) Matt, you are exactly right! The ASY male brought home 2-3 SY's last week & then ran them off!
Since this is the first year to have PM's, I am curious why I attracted a pair of ASy's instead of SY's like most newbies :???: ? The only thing I can figure out is that there is a neighbor behind a second tree line behind our 1.25 acre homesite that has a house just like mine that is now overrun with European Sparrows. I've been defending my house & have captured & disposed of at least 8 male sparrows this season. I only have 1 whole open on the backside of the house + the sparrow trap I got last year. Should I drop a note in their mailbox asking them to please help control the sparrows?
Thanks for all your advice!!
