Had a cute occurence today....As we were washing off the boat after returning from a boat ride Gary decided to share with the martins...turned the hose nozzle to mist and misted the martins perching atop our gourd rack. The started flapping their wings, shaking and opening their beaks in what appeared to be a drinking motion! Other martins saw the commotion and about 5 joined the others in the mist. Too funny!
When the temps hit 102 back in April I did that and the martins seemed to really enjoy it. I'm practicing for the the summer months to come. It get's mighty hot up here and I sure worry about all the martins, young and old alike. Misting a couple times a day in extreme heat might really help them out.
How neat! I bet they really enjoyed that! We are having a drought in Florida and I set up a pole with a sprayer on top. Whenever it gets real hot, I turn it on and the Martins love flying through it!
