We lowered all housing to place crickets in each gourd/house and whoopee! 7 babies....3 in one gourd and 4 in another....very tiny...perhaps only a day or so old. Mom was taking eggshells out and dropping them. Egg count has also increased to about 40. Things are slow but considering the drought, these are wise birds.

Sue,

This is my 2nd attempt at replying and hope you get it...

Congrats on those PM babies and sorry to hear about yall's drought problems. It was like that here until about 2 months ago and we're finally getting a little rain. I pray that yall get some rain soon. good luck,

Sue, I've been following a number of posts and know you folks down on the coast have been DRY, but your baby news is great and I know you're excited. It must be a relief to see the results of all of your hard work, and the worry of the drought.

You inadvertantly answered a question I had...once the babies hatch, what happens with egg shells, etc. Guess Mom cleans them out, I've been trying to look in archives, old posts, etc. to find that out...so thanks for that comment.

Our single ASY pair (our first year) has 5 eggs and we're "expecting" about Tuesday or Wednesday and I can tell you we're terribly excited too. Sure wish we could send down some of our weather from here in Cen Tex, it's been a bit interesting around here this past few days...and quite a bit of rain. Our birds seem to be very healthy and when our female leaves the nest, she's only gone for just a few minutes, so there must be plenty of insects flying for them.

Hope the rest of the season is just great for all of you coastal folks and that there will be some relief soon from your drought.
