Last year I had 1 Subbie Male, this year I have 2 pair. My subbie from last year returned on April 2 and on the 18th he found him a subbie female, and on April 9th another male, which I think was one of the subbies that hung around here once in a while last summer returned and today he found him a subbie female. And the subbie migration hasnt really even started real good yet. I havent seen a subbie male this year yet, so when they come in my now new martin colony might get a good jump start.

Congratulations!
I remember your ups and downs of last season.
It surely sounds like you've been rewarded for all your hard work with a colony! And you will be a great landlord and caretaker of these wonderful birds.
Best of luck to you,
Mary

Don't worry about the nest building.
I've got about 60 ASYs here and don't expect them to start nest building for another week or two. Definitely not until warm weather returns.
Remember, martin nestlings in the North need to eat lots of BIG dragonflies. Those dragonflies aren't usually available until mid-June or later here. Even martins who arrive in my colony in late March will time egg-laying so that their nestlings get to eat the big dragonflies. That means that egg-laying usually doesn't start until about May 20 here.
Martins migrate here early to claim housing. Then they party for weeks until the timing is right to start their family.

You have two pairs, which is a real colony. They've been there so long that they surely intend to stay.
