Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Had a new visitor this morning :). Just at the crack of dawn a second ASY male showed up. I had gone out last night & told the other one that's been here to go find some friends & bring them back & he did. Hopefully once the storm/rain we're to get tomorrow passes more will show up.

The 2 of them were sort of attacking each other in flight, but not aggressively. They were going in & out of the nest holes & checking things out. A Robin landed on the power lines & the one martin landed within a few inches & made jesters to chase him off.

So for others in central PA..... keep watching.

The girls are waiting for the storm/rain to pass. They're a little fickle ya know, LOL.

Returning from Route 44 North today I saw you have a few birds, in your area. Saw a house, on the Northeast, of Avis., by the intersection, of 120. He has a new house and no birds yet . He has had martins for years....Not yet this year.

I'm a bit confused as to where you're talking about. We have no Rt 120 here, unless it was one of the 911 changes no body pays attention too, LOL. There is a Rt 150 off Rt 44. At the intersection a right turn brings you into Avis, left takes you to Jersey Shore. I'm assuming that's the one you meant?

So was the house near Janie's Restaurant?

There's also house at the west end of town. You can see it as you turn off Rt 150/Central Avenue to go towards Rt 220 highway. I have never seen any martins in that house. They also never take it down.

I'm sure there are other houses in Avis & the surrounding area. I just haven't really looked for any. Most are the old style that are left up year around & never cleaned out.

Toy.........I made a quick tour. My routing numbers ended up with an intensional typo. Thought you would pick that up. I do not show addresses, or even general areas, on the board without permission.
I did a quick buzz, on the village. Found the West End house. Sat there ,for a dish, of Dairy Queen. I saw nothing but sparrows working. I saw an elderly gentleman, on the Northeast side, of the Pine Creek exit. His house is a new Trio about eight rooms. The wife died, his kids made off with the old Martin House therefore he needed a new house. No action yet in spite, of regular use, in the old house. I ran out of daylight to look about town.....missing the Southeast end completely.....because I liked the elderly gentleman and tried, to have him understand.....the ones hatched here last year will come back sometime, in May. That seemed, to please him, by reopening the window, of possibility.

I do know the Southeast end a bit because I run across the intersection, by the restaurant, and proceed, to a left back into your neighboring village. I know the Llama folks along that route. I get some llama beans as fertilizer, for my giant vegi growing, from them.

Why don't you dig up my E and say hi. With that I can send you my location which I prefer not to post, on an open public board.

Once again I will say maybe. This is the second possible visit but geese they do not stay long. No claims yet although this bird was with a black beak. They keep this up I will see them soon, for a positive ID. :)) I think they are playing with my head.
