Okay, I know it is early to have subbies in my area so Iam a little
confused. I had a martin arrive monday the 27 of feb. at first I thought it
was a female but I kept watching this martin all day it stayed to its self
the first day. That night the martin went in a unoccupied gourd on the
bottom on my new gourd rack. The next morning this martin went in a
gourd on the top that sometimes one of the ASY pair would roost in, will
this martin went in and the male ASY went in after the martin and that
gourd went to swinging and the martin that I thought was a female tried
to exit the gourd but the ASY male would not have that finally after a few
minutes the martin I thought was a female exit the gourd all but a foot
which the ASY male would not turn loose of when the martin broke loose
it went right back in the gourd it had roost in the night before, so I am
thinking now that this must be a subbie, if it is I now have 2 subbies, the
other one arrived yesterday. Unless anyone has ever had ASY males
react this way to other females.

Hello Davlyn,
You do have a Male Subbie!!! And I had the same experience yesterday when an ASY female that was new came in and went in a gourd with a male! I thought it was a SY male but it was a female! It was very dark just like a SY male! So you never know anymore until you see where he or she goes! HA! John!

Hello John, your right all you can do is watch and learn! Sounds like you
are having a great start this year, how many martins do you have at this
time? We counted last night and I have 16 as of last night. I am having a
little bit of a hawk problem right he has not tried to get a martin as of yet
but he comes threw my yard a few times a day I have not seen him get
anything yet as so far all the birds seem to alert each other. I hope that
will continue.

Hello Davlyn,
I have 13 pairs of ASY martins as of to date! But the number keeps changing every other day! I had a hawk attack a new martin two days ago and was successful! It was very foggy that morning when it came storming through! But the good news that I can get out of it, was it wasn't from my colony! But he or she could of added to it! My colony gets the heck out of there when the martins screams! But this new martin wasn't used to that and got caught! I ran over closer to the hawk and thru rocks at it but it was too late! Haven't seen it since! Thanks John!
