My new Nature House martin house, the kind with the lanyard, is stuck up there. I didn't think I pulled it too tight when I put it up 4 weeks ago, but I guess I must have.
Any suggestions how to get it down, without taking the whole pole down? I don't have martins yet (although a pair checked out the house a few days ago). It'll be hard to take the pole down by myself - I'm afraid the house will crash down & break - so if there's another suggestion, I'd appreciate it. I don't have a ladder that'll go that high.
Should I expect it to get stuck often?
When I put it up, I raised & lowered it without a problem, then raised it up and tied it in place. Haven't done anything else with it since a few days ago, when I tried to lower it and found it stuck.
Thanks,
Leslie
Lanyard stuck - how to get the house down?
Leslie,
All of the Nature House lanyard lowering models (the TM-12 Mini-Castle Safety System, the MSS-12 and MSS-8 Martin Safety Systems), seem to be pretty reliable. It's probably rare for one to get stuck like that. I don't think you should worry about it being a reoccurring problem.
That said, I'm sure you're not the first person this has happened to.
I'd call Nature House. They're extremely helpful folks, and can probably give you some ideas on how to get the house down, without having to remove the pole.
Due to forum policy, I'll have to private message you their contact page link.(In case you don't already have their contact info.)

Leslie,
My Trio Grandpa is three years old and I just started having trouble with it a couple of weeks ago. I do not have any Martins, so I don't lower the house very much. Last week I tried to lower it and it would'nt move!!!
It seems like there is not enough weight for the house to drop. This weekend I'm planning to take the landyard off and making it a free-fall like my older Trio. Jim

I put in a support request to Nature House - thanks for the link!!
I considered tying a rope to the base of the lanyard to give it a tug, in case this ever happens again. But of course, I have to get it DOWN first. Just removing the lanyard seems like a good idea, too.

No problem.
There's a toll free number towards the bottom of that Nature House support page, in case you want quick support. They're great to talk to.
Attaching another rope or lanyard to the bottom of the house, like you mentioned, might be a great idea. You could use the existing lanyard to pull the house back up, and keep it in the up position - and use the rope or lanyard you attach to the bottom of the house to provide some assistance in sliding the house to the down position, in case the force of gravity is not quite enough to free it from the up position.
