Ok, I bought the plastic SREH's from the PMCA, now how do I install them. I thought someone had said you use a hole saw to make the hole bigger then put the SREH on, but if I do that I can't screw the SREH on as the screw holes are above the SREH??? Do I just make it so the current round hole is wider than it is now so the SREH opening is clear? I am not to good with this? Thanks

I simply enlarged the wooden hole a bit so the wooden hole was larger than the entrance plate hole.I then attached them with 4 wood screws, one in each corner...If the holes in the entrance plate are in the wrong location, simply make new holes with the screw or with a small bit.

I would make sure the entrance hole was 1/4 above the floor, and to get this, I would saw off part of the bottom of the entrance plate before I attach it. By putting the hole near the floor, it helps to prevent starlings from entering. Great care must be taken in sawing the bottom off so that you do not split the entrance plate..I have a saw, and I cut very slowly with it so that 1/4 bottom of the entrance plate will not break off...

An alternate way is to raise the porch so the entrance hole is only 1/4inch above the porch. Add some flooring to raise the porch

Thanks Emil, so you made the entire hole bigger?? the whole circle? You didnt just take out the sides of the current hole to make it so the crescent was clear? What do you mean have the crescent 1/4 above th floor? Do you mean a 1/4 inch? I have tried to look at pics and it looks like people have the bottom of the crescent right down to the porch?
Thanks

Rhonda, it is most effective if the bottom of the crescent is within 1/4 inch of the outside floor...How wide is that space on the crescent that you purchased? It may be ok to use it as is...

I don't make the hole bigger where it is not needed, I only make it bigger for the SREH area. It really doesn't matter how the old hole looks when you enlarge it because the old hole will be covered with the SREH...I maybe didn't explain this right...If not, then ask again, I will try to help

Hi Emil, yes thank you for clarifying that. The bottom of the SREH is about 1/4 inch now. And yes I was unsure if I should make the entire circular hole bigger, keeping it a circle, or just carve out the area I need to make it so the crescent opening is clear. Thank you for responding to my post. I want to get this done tomorrow! javascript:emoticon('')

Rhonda Mc. If you haven't got the holes cut yet, here's what I'd do. I'd take the SREH adaptor that you want to put on the door, lay it against the door, then using a pencil, or marker, mark around the inside of the SREH, onto the wooden door. Then cut that part out. You'll want a narrow blade if you plan on using a Jig saw, or reciprocating saw, whichever you call it. This way, you'll know how much you need to cut out, and won't be cutting way too much, and thus not being able to use the SREH. Good Luck, CUL Lou
