I just took my house down to clean it and realized I don't know how to do it!! Is it good enough just to brush everything out really well and put fresh cedar chips in?

That sounds good...many people wash it with clorox water (10% clorox and 90% water), and that kills all of the old mites, etc....its really easy to add that step, you don't need to scrub, just make sure it all gets wet wtih that solution, then rinse it with a water hose
After it dries, then add the nesting material
