One tip. In raising and lowering these poles, you have to look for the holes and realign them. It's easy to accidentally put the house back up turned 180 degrees -- disaster for nesting pairs. Putting some more distinct orientation marks on the pole may help, or just noting some feature of the house and keeping it faced same direction. These poles are pretty sturdy.

Thanks for the info. regarding pole orientation for the Coates poles. Even with the old Nature house poles, I had to be careful that the alignment wasn't reversed with the "posi-pins"

When reviewing my equipment, it now seems I'm giong to need new base plates (or bottom brackets) to mount the Coates HD poles with my M12K houses. Seems the Coates poles are probably a larger diameter than my old Nature House poles.

Any suggestions?

Re: Trio mounting bracket. You could attach a Coate's base plate to the Trio house pretty easily. I'd put some big washers on the top side to add strength -- so house doesn't rip off. Other option may be to put threads on the end of the coates pole and add a "reducer" to get a short section of shorter pipe (sorry I don't know sizes needed). There's always a "way" for landlords who are willing to fiddle with these things. Ha

And if you obsess, like me, you may want to lock the pole down in a public space. One way is to drill out the pin holes in the pole to 1/4 inch and replace the pins with trailer hitch locks. A simple padlock with a long neck might fit, but I'd have to try it.

As for poles I just make my own rigs using 1 1/4 inch schedule 80 gas line pipe. Bike locks work great to deter children from messing with houses. I caught one boy trying to lower it and I think I scared the daylights out of him. He never returned. Wish I could say the same for sparrows. lol.

Thanks for the ideas.

I've found that Coates sells their base plates separately for the martin house poles. And it's advertised as made of aluminum. That's seems an advantage, as the brackets on my m12k houses are badly rusting, in the salt-air coastal location. (But the brackets are OK on my houses near fresh-water lakes, a couple miles away from the coast.)

So I'm ordering them today.

I hope the Coates poles have stainless steel pins or bolts(?Any one know?), as those parts are also rusting on my old poles.
