Hi all,
I saw an ASY male bird at a "barely attended" colony near me yesterday. This dual house is at a Goodyear car center, and always seems to have 8-10 pairs of martins. There was one cold looking bird sitting on the perch yesterday, so maybe my pair (I only had one) are on the way back!

Til later!

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Hi Mikey...

I remember you and your pair from last season. They could be back any time now. Thank you for posting about the returning scout in Baton Rouge. I don't think anybody was believing there were PMs in Louisiana already. I am really getting excited now!!!

Let us know when your birds return. I'm expecting you to have a population boom this season. Best of luck to you and yours...

Sincerely,

Hi Mike, thanks for the heads up :!: :!: Louisiana isn't that far from good ole Texas, so the waiting is really beginning   Best of success this year

Hi Mike,

I'll be driving past the Goodyear tomorrow morning and will keep my eyes open. Best of luck to you this year. I'm replacing one of my houses now that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. I better get a rush on.

Hi all,
I saw two more scout birds (ASY males) at the Goodyear location on Sunday afternoon (1/22). They're really here in Baton Rouge (but I haven't seen mine yet...)

Mikey,
Where is that Goodyear location, in BR?

Hi Joe,
The Goodyear car center is on Lee Drive, just across from St. James nursing home (really close to the intersection of Highland and Lee). The houses are on the north side of their building between them and the old Circle K (whatever it is called now). It looks like two 16 compartment houses with a perch bar between them. There have been martins there pretty much every year.

Thanks, Mikey

I will drive over there a take a look. I live near a Goodyear store South Harrells Ferry at Sherwood. I drove by and didn't see any PM stationed there.

I know exactly which store you are talking about, as my son used their service many years ago while he attended LSU, and I had to go pay the bill. No easy to forget.
