Did my homework and get confused. The question vertical or horizontal installation? Suspect either would be good. In practice which is best?

Vertical installation would be the best I think. Or, whatever works best for the housing you are using.
PMCA member and Martin fanatic....
2011 A pair of subbies fledged three young but none returned in 2012
2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows.
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest
2019 Same old story................

In all the pictures I've seen, the opening in the wire is vertical, so the PM can land upright, and scoot into the housing. CUL Lou

Baffling it is! All the pix and your comments indicate vertical orientation. In the archives there is a footnote that reads:"PMCA now suggests horizontal orientation".
Thank you for responding. I'll hang around to see if someone clicks, on here, with understandable support, for horizontal. My stupid brain can't see, to much, difference but wants, to go vertical.
