- Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas
Colleen, we stayed at our house, the storm missed us, we got about 1/4in of rain, and about 30mph wind with no damage of any sort at our area. We had the lights flicker a few times, but the electricity stayon on. Thank God!

Colleen. Wow, thanks for the update. This gives me a better sense of feel for the predicament my BOL is in. He, his wife, and son also live in Katy, and we've been wondering how he was doing. Since you are doing okay, they should be also. He called his sister, (My wifes sister also) and said they were going to stay home. The Expressways were all clogged, and they couldn't move, so since they had food, water, etc for several weeks, they were staying put. CUL Lou

2011 A pair of subbies fledged three young but none returned in 2012
2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows.
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest
2019 Same old story................

We got lucky , the storm missed us, we didn't even lose power, it was the first time we had been through anything like this. Most of the stores were closed today, but i heard that h.e.b. on mason rd was open. I am just waiting for the gas stations to reopen as I have no gas in my van, , The kids are off school until Wednesday aarrgg!!!!!!!
I hope our everyone who got the brunt of the storm are Ok, please check in to let us know you are ok

[[/b]We were very lucky here in Katy. The storm turned and took us totally out of its path. However, different story at our lake house outside of Livingston..we lost 4 big huge trees. Thank God they all fell away from the house . We were very lucky. We were able to finally get in to check on it this past Thursday. Our neighbors across the street have 4 trees on their house. Also, power will probably not be on up there for another 3-4 weeks. There are trees down EVERYWHERE, and of course, they all fell on the power lines, which are all over the ground. The wind was clocked at 117 mph.
My two martin houses made it as far as the houses were concerned. One pole is bent at the ground. The other pole just layed down and is not bent. Hope those martins were safe during migration....i guess we'll see come spring. Hope we don't face a "shortage"!
