I can sometimes be really dense in certain things ( most things really lol) but I need help trying to determine the sex of these 4 PM’s. I really don’t know if these pictures are good enough to tell. If not, I will try and get better pictures when I can. Thank you

it's really almost impossible to tell due to the distance of the photos, even zoomed in. The only thing I can say for sure is they are not ASY males, they could be females or sy males. Best way to tell is to listen to their vocalization. If you hear a series of 4-5 quick clicks at the end of the vocalization they are males. Visually, if you see random purple splotches on the underside that is SY male, the females are little more patterned, the SY males will just be random spots, some more than others

Thank you so much. Then I definitely have more males than I thought. I don’t know what I get so confused but I do. I have those identifying cards coming from the PM store and a procras. wheel, whatever that is the tells egg laying hatching etc. hopefully maybe I will be more clear in my mind. Thank you fly in Lowe!!!

Additionally I know that I have at least a female too. Since I have two nest, obviously, I have 2 females.

Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs

Look at photos of the different types of males (SYs and ASYs). Male SYs are very easy to ID for me. Also.. the males make a very distinctive chirp with a kind of croak at end.. so watch and listen.. the Male SY will stand out. Male SYs will often have splotches of purple on the chest area and under tail — binoculars are most helpful too- especially to ID a female SY from a female ASY.

PMCA website has quite a few pics to help ID them all. Search around there, and you’ll find them. Maybe just an internet search too.

Thank you so much my Broussard Louisiana PM friend. I did receive the packet I ordered with identification cards and I will study those to know what I have. God Bless you and all my PM friends.

Adult PMs are easy to identify Males are all black with ultra violent glow while females have light colored breasts almost dirty white. Sys are little harder do to the spots, usually Sy males spot are more and start to fill in more quickly. looking at pictures at that distance I say they are adult PM males? but due to. low light conditions it's guess.
