Good evening all my PM friends,
Today the Troyer Trap I had constructed a year ago was finally put on a timber along with trap attachment connected to trap. I have tried and tried to attach a picture. The error message keeps saying file too large. I chose the smallest picture size when choosing photo setting taken with iPhone 11 plus. Only one picture submitted. I have no idea why file would be too large.
I have no idea what stage the starling is in, whether it’s building nest, mating, laying eggs, etc. I said all that because I am anxious for the starling to discover the trap. I decided to place mealworms due to being lightweight.
If I were to have chosen suet, the builder of the trap said that I would have to adjust the tripping mechanism due to the weight. All of my forum friends I am very sure knows the mechanics of this trap and understands what I am trying to say.
Instructions say the trap should be strategically placed in order for them to find. This trap is facing a clump of cedar trees that has been housing these worthless illegals over the years. I am purely ashamed that as a landlord, to make these statements and had no idea what I was doing by not trying to get rid of them.
The trap is about 8 ft in height in the air.
Next thing I want to say is probably needs to be put on bluebirds are fighting martins. Everyone has been so gracious and encouraging in that topic. I will update everyone as soon as I close this conversation out. Any tips seasoned PM friends would like to give me, would be greatly appreciated. God Bless each one of you!!
Sincerely,
Linda Moore from Many La.

It looks good! Should work just fine.
Don't worry about not realizing the danger they pose, your ready now with a great trap that will rake them in.
Is this one baited? Maybe I read that wrong. Anyway they cannot resist inspecting those cavities.
Good hunting!
Tom

Good morning Mr Tom, yes sir it has mealworms inside. Mr Tom, my thoughts exactly about nosing around in a new box structure. They cannot help themselves, lol. And I’m not gonna be able to help myself either, lol.
Mr Tom, I had to admit it, but I think reason I couldn’t get pic uploaded is because I had not logged in. I’m still learning how forum works. Nevertheless, I have been successful.
God Bless you Mr CC Martin!!

Alls good, uploading pictures here can be a pain sometimes.

Even during winter and after martins have left I put up nest box traps next to a suet feeder, the young ones jump right in.
Let us know how it goes!
Best,
Tom

Mr Tom, I came home and found a pair of BB’s in the trap. Talk about happy to be freed. I just pray mama isn’t sitting on eggs. I know about settin hens but not bird eggs, that is what happens if they are incubated for a period then not for a few hours. I was gone about 6-8 hours is all.
Having said all this, for sure I know the trap is operable and working correctly.
God Bless you!

There are others more experienced with this S&S trap but in my opinion you should consider relocating it close to the tree in the background. Right at the drip line . That way native birds such as the Bluebirds won’t be as eager to check it out. Good luck. I wish I had one of these traps.

Thank you for your comment Mr Jeffc.
The fella that constructed and put up for me went online and brought paperwork he had printed off regarding where to put this trap. It said place in the pathway these starlings travel and so that’s why the location was decided upon, but you are right, in my mind I knew that was going to be a potential threat to my BB babies, and turns out it was. Thankfully all turned out well as far as I know.
Yes sir, I began researching what could catch those illegal aliens last year. I’m thinking I saw this contraption on PM organization. I remember it being soooo expensive and knew that was not an option for me, so I contacted my friend that is a butterfly/ bird house master builder and he suggested to me if he had some plans he could build it, so I gladly said please ( impossible as a woman to shoot and kill one of these suckers, they are slick)
It was still costly Mr Jeffc. But hopefully there will be lots of years of use and I am like the rest of you PM landlords, if we’re going to be landlords we should be willing to take care and protect these babies when they stay with us.
That’s what I read from everyone that post on the forum and that is about taking care and protecting these precious babies.
Mr Jeffc I guess if it becomes too big a problem, I will relocate. Thank you again for weighing in, I do so appreciate.
God Bless you and each one reading
Sincerely,
Linda from Many La
