Martin Colony History: 9 years of trying hard...finally in 2017 I had 3 pair w/ 11 babies. T-14 +4 w/ 4 Troyer horiz. gourds. Troyer Super System 24. Fast forward to 2020... 64 fledged.

I am trying to help our local Audubon locate and move a housing set-up to a better location. Unfortunately, the only open space within 100 of occupied dwelling (the visitor center) is a parking lot...with bright LED lights on all night. My gut feeling is that this would bother the PM's. Does anybody have any real world experience or good info. about how lights might effect the birds? Thanks in advance.

note: This is a previously unoccupied site so there are no previous year birds returning.

Hope it pans out, sounds like a good idea!

The lights won't bother them. Iv 18 gourds smack in the middle of my front yard. Garage outdoor lights come on at dusk. Never been a problem.

Also there is a roost that forms every year, they are in a bunch of oaks in a strip mall and parking lot, last year two of the street lights near the roost burnt out, the roost moved 100 yards away to a better lit area.

Think your gonna be ok.

Tom is right. I have my martin house very close to my driveway which is lit. Doesn’t bother them in the least. I think they feel secure with the lights.

Agree 100%… in my experience night light doesn’t bother them. I’m sure it’s quite dark inside their cavities , even with outside light.

Good to hear. I'll recommend we give it a try. Thanks all for the input.
