Have a sparrow issue with my birds choice house. Can’t shoot them. What the best way to trap them?

Do they have doors that open? Not familiar with those houses think its a waters edge or coats right?

If the sparrow has claimed the box, put a glue pad used to trap mice in it. Just make sure the bluebirds are no longer showing interest. I had been trying to shoot a male who claimed a tree swallow box. The tree swallows had fledged and a big male house sparrow posted up on the box. I couldn’t get a good shot at him,but noticed him going in and out of the box. Went and bought a glue pad, cut it to fit and within 30 mins he was stuck fast to the pad. Took him out and terminated him.

Just thinking out loud here, but the question Larry has about trapping options for Birds Choice/Coates/Watersedge houses, may also become a question for some that are using Trio/Nature House houses since the manufacturer appears to have ceased making what may have been one of the best house sparrow trapping devices ever - the Spare-O-Door.
I'm thinking the best thing for Birds Choice/Coates/Watersedge houses and Trio/Nature House houses is going to be one of the in-house universal traps, combined with something to reduce the entrance hole size to prevent a Martin from getting trapped.
I've mentioned it in years past, but it would be huge if the companies that make the various in-house traps would include some type of plastic or aluminum piece that could clip onto the trap somehow, that reduces the hole size for house sparrow trapping.

Agree Matt,
Too often we improvise. It works but would be nice if they would. I took the trap mechanism off a universal sparrow trap (round hole) and removed it from the wire cage completely. Mounted it on a trio door, reduced the hole and it works like a spare o door but again improvisation.
Universal sparrow traps are great, got an idea from Kathy Freeze...she cut thin sturdy cardboard painted flat black to fit the walls, ceiling and back of the trap. That way they cannot see the trap dimensions.
I think I read one of her blogs 100 times:
https://kathyfreeze.blogspot.com/2015/0 ... r.html?m=1

Last year off season I put 3 out near our repeating ground trap. Sprinkled some seeds inside and caught quite a few.
I wish Troyer or PMCA would buy the rights to the spare o door.

Totally agree Tom.
Nice work on the Spare-O-Door clone. I would probably end up mangling the trap mechanism and two or three Trio doors in the process LOL.
That's a great idea from Kathy F. She is awesome!

Lol! Well its nice to have a spare when deciding to do it. I had to talk myself into it Matt. its fairly easy. all you have to do is mount the trap with the metal front it comes with flush to the trio door. to do that use some tin snips and cut the lip off the sides of the now removed trap mechanism so its flat. reduce the hole or cut the hole in a blank door to spare o door size, line up the trap to the hole, drill two holes into both near the corners of the trap and either bolt it or rivet it in. the aluminum trio house door hanging rod does not interfere with the trap door, (there isn't much clearance, but it works) and just like a spare o door, have to set it from the outside. It is a nice heavy door.
