Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go. :)

Wow. That was quick. :)

It always amazes me how egg laying and fledging are so much further along in some areas of the country. Heck we are still a week out from first chicks!
Congrats!

Same here. Had the first one yesterday and the others from the same nest followed today.

I think our martins are on the same schedule.

Figures that Florida is first to fledge, since your ASYs arrive in Florida first. Congrats on another successful season!

i don't even have a pair yet. a lone ASY probably won't find a mate until the SYs get here.

Thanks for all the replies, later this coming week 2
more cavities will start fledging, the other Troyer by #2 and a house cavity. I do have 2 house cavities with 4 unhatched eggs and 1 hatchling in each both of witch are growing slowly. 1 very slow forming feathers and kind of lays flat all the time. I doubt he or she will make it. Parents are still trying to help. 2 cavity with abandoned unhatched eggs and 2 others that will fledge in about two weeks. All parents are ASY. No predators here and plenty of bugs. Weather never dipped below 45 degrees early on. I think some of the adults were subject to pollution in Brazil, sad.
