This is interesting, have a male who has claimed two gourds...so too the female. Happens alot early on then they relinquish.
Yet here we are deep into egg laying/incubation and they still want it. A subbie pair is trying hard to take it, every evening I root for the subbies. It gets to be a stare down, ASY male is on upper gourd porch, subbie on lower and they stare at each other. Tension builds, Noone moves, then ASY dives down, knocks him off the porch and goes in. ASY female who was in upper gourd comes out and joins him. Then they go back to upper gourd. Subbie does not try to sneak in at night, hes been beat up enough. He does go in when ASY is not around though, both male and female.
ASY pair built nests in both gourds.
Will this adult settle on one finally or take both the whole season?

both years i've had pairs, one of them has built 2 complete nests. can't say that they bothered w/ the 2nd one after eggs were laid though.

Last week there were no eggs in either, suspect eggs are in uppermost, ill find out tomorrow. Well see what he does. The subbies aren't hanging around like last year though, (they slept in the gourd arms at night) hope these two stick through it.

Yep, Tom, some ASY males can be greedy. I have 1 , still holding on to 2 gourds. It is frustrating, when they don’t relinquish, after eggs are laid! Just have to hope the SY keeps pushing the issue… eventually, the ASY’s usually give in, when they get busy feeding, but every year is different!
Good luck..
