Hey all, up to 3 pair with more rooms to fill! Coopers Hawk attacked yesterday but failed. I forgot I could move that fast out of my patio chair!
Keeping my eyes peeled. Funny how my PMs sing loudly and play in the morning and come back in the late afternoon to do the same.
Where do they go all day? Running errands, shopping? They never tell me! Yet I wait and listen!
Happy season and good luck everyone!!

- Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.
2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)
2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.
2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged
2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(
2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.
2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.
Yeah I think they meet up with other martins and feed all day throughout the area. That period of morning and evening action is common with mine as well— until nesting time.. then they are pretty much around all day.
Today in particular I had non stop wild and frenzy action all day. My 18 apartments are just about all filled up already and I think the frenzy is over the last couple of spots. This is a first.. usually I have had to wait for the SY arrivals to finish filling up.

Yes, at this point of the season, they will spend a lot of time in the afternoon, off feeding.. but ditto.. I’m filling up faster this year than ever before!

I’m up to 7 pair with room for one more pair. Started with a pair, then BAM, 6 pair posturing for the best apartment.
A huge storm is coming through my area (Prosper, TX), saying large hail.
Worried about my PM finding adequate shelter

Lisa, thats great! Been watching that, hope you guys get through it ok.
Seems like they all emerge early, go drink, mess around come back and show off compartments till midday and off they go. No socializing yet, some of these males have chosen 2 gourds so soon as a female comes they are busy showing them off.
Here in corpus, we are about 70 to 75% full, have one lone female in a camera gourd. She's picky! Be interesting to see if she gets a subbie. She'll set him straight.
Think I'm in for a bunch of subbies this year to fill 100%. I'm glad for that, they are a pain but a home is calling.
