I have a t-4 Martin house with 3” metal pole I am considering replacing the brake winch with worm gear. Does anyone have any comments to help steer me in the right direction? The house is so heavy so I’m not sure if the drill can support the weight? However, it sure would make things so much easier as we age.
Looking for all comments/reviews.
Thanks in advance:)
Worm gear
The worm gear winches require very little input force and can lift substantial loads. I lift a heavy 24 unit rack with ease using a cordless drill with no strain at all, even on the high-speed setting.

My house has an electric winch powered by a car battery. It has a hand held control that puts it up and down. The only drawback is it's pretty noisy. The birds don't seem to mind. I've had two females stay inside the compartment while it was lowered on 2 seperate occasions.

Amazing deal at Harbor Freight. $34 gets an assembled worm gear with a hex head for either the included hand crank, or for directly connecting my Milwaukee hand drill! I did a lot of searching and didn't find anything even close to the price anywhere else.
