I wonder if the bad air quality we have right now, because of the smoke coming down from Canada, is going to affect our birds. Anybody know or have an opinion on this?

I believe everything effects everything else in some capacity, however the effects often takes a long time to understand and to see the results. That smoke had us all the way down here in VA coughing and burning eyes a few weeks back. Best wishes on wind change for clear air and skies.

Thanks, Jones4381! We've been dealing with the smoke for weeks, too, but right now it's extremely bad. It's supposed be be better by noon on Thursday but that probably only means it won't be extremely bad......but still not good. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how everything fares from it all.

Yes sir, that smoke was on us yesterday evening as the trade winds had it down here is SW VA almost as bad as the May winds. I saw Chicago and Moline on the news....man that is some nasty air...stay inside and ride it out...looks like it was a one day event for us...hang in there upper midwest and N.E USA.

Thanks! It's the worst today - even more so than yesterday and yesterday was really bad. One of my granddaughters lives in southern IL, near St. Louis and she said it has reached them today. Maybe the rain we get tonight will cut some of it. I hope everyone is taking precautions with their health if they are dealing with it.

2021 - Got 2 eggs. HOSPs poked holes in them. Commence HOSP reduction
2022 - Off to a good start, tree swallows took over and Martins left
2023 - Off to a good start, Martin population dwindled and they eventually left
2024 - New standalone pole and gourd rack. 1 nest, 4 eggs, none hatched
2025 - 9 nests, 37 eggs, 23 hatched, 19 fledged!

Yup, really hazy over here in Wisconsin too. Could actually smell it yesterday and today also.

It still seems amazing to me that the smoke can make it this far without dissipating.

I know - and I agree! It's crazy! I have a granddaughter in Collinsville, IL and even they were under an alert yesterday and still today. Our alert ended at noon today - we can finally see again! I feel so bad for the Canadians who live around in it!
