Today several new pairs arrived, and one of them----I assume it was a female----had a snow-white breast. All of the females I've seen in the past have gray or light-gray breasts, but I've never seen one pure white like that. She? was with a mature male. Has anybody else seen this?

- Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.
Yes I've had sub-females with a snow white breast before.

Thanks, I didn't know if it was that unusual. It was the first one I had ever seen.

Any chance it was a tree swallow mixed in with the martins?

We actually called her Snow White due her her white chest/belly area. Tree Swallows have a bluish/green color, so if it's not them then it's a Sub-female with white chest/belly area.daltonmissouri wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 5:56 pmThanks, I didn't know if it was that unusual. Never seen an adult with a pure white breast, I kinda guessed TS just based on the time of year. Not sure there are any SY's in MO yet.
