Went to Whataburger for lunch today, as usual sparrows are chirping in the marquee and a palm near the parking lot.
Went back to the car and thought what the heck, ill play my favorite you tube sparrow "chick calling for mother" call video, cranked it up and stuck my phone out the window. Not 1 munite later 5 very confused sparrows were landing on the next vehicle over looking for the source!
Video only lasts 3 minutes but gets them in range for sure.
All in fun.

And when I get home male sparrow in the nest box trap.
A good house sparrow is a dead house sparrow.

Good post Tom!
There have been numerous times over the years where I've been in position for a shot, for whatever reason the house sparrow flew off, and I would use my phone to start playing house sparrow vocalizations to effectively lure it back into "weapons envelope".

It works, doesn't it? I love doing that, it works just about all year too. I refrain from going on you tube and thanking the author for the assist in the demise of many sparrows, they may take it off! I like the term weapons envelope....yep, like that term a lot! Have to be as treacherous and ruthless as they are.

The best day of trapping I had with my repeating sparrow trap was when I found a baby HOSP fluttering on the ground after it pre maturely fledged from somewhere. I stuck it my trap as bait and caught 11 HOSP's that afternoon.
