You're welcome Dave. I love sharing ideas with other Landlords. I would suggest that if anyone who builds one of these and you live in an area problem-ed with Owls take a minute and drill a hole thru the top and bottom handle and secure with a pin or bolt to prevent an Owl from pulling the door open.

Nice work! Did you ever think about using nuts and bolts to attach the tunnel on? I use nuts and bolts on all my gourds. Especially with my modified bo gourds! I just never had much luck with those push pins! Just a thought? But anyways nice work I really like them!

Thanks Kyler, and yes I have done some of my tunnels on gourds using nuts and bolts. Personally I have had good luck using the push pins. The only way I found to remove a tunnel is to cut the head of the push pin off and then push it on thru the hole.

I have used both of your ideas in the past with metal housing. Lock nut or stop nut with bolt great for attaching tunnels to metal houses and similarly a hitch pin for a modified metal door with tunnel attached for added secureness.

To give everyone a better idea this is how the 4 Mail Box cavities will hang on the rack along with 4 Gourds filling the vacant spots making this an 8 cavity rack.

mwren, I have designed to slide onto my existing GMA's and pinned the same as gourd. I have 3 poles all with winch and cable. These 4 mail box cavities will go on my B&B rack with 4 Bo9 gourds. This still has to be painted white.

Dale D where could I find vents like you used here? I want to make some housing out of military ammo Boxes these vents would work nice.

randy, you should be able to get them from Lowe's. I bought some there in packages of 6. If not you can get them from Ventmaster's online. I have bought them there also.

Hey Dale what if you know is the weight difference between a mail box and like a bo11 or similar large gourds like that. I know you have wenches on the racks but some people might still use pull ropes. And the lighter the set up the better when it comes to lifting a rack manually. Thanks in advance JHCox

jhcox, If I am not mistaking I think a BO11 with tunnel weighs 3lb. The Mail Boxes I chose were Metal and weigh around 4lb. Since I do use winches weight wasn't a factor for me otherwise I would have went with aluminum of plastic Mail Boxes.

I now have 6 white plastic mailboxes
Mounted the same as if they were a gourd.
I used front entry. Simply really.

I shut the front door Put a pop rivet nail end in the top hole
Makes cleaning easy Pull the pop rivet out Door entry comes down.
Have 12 more white plastic mailboxes to work on this fall.[ Later

That's a really cool idea- the only thing cooler would be to use reclaimed mailboxes and repurpose them... but where are you going to find those??! You could get really artistic with that project too.

Just curious, I know you're being gracious with the size- but with the elongated entrance seems like you could easily get 2 cavities per mailbox and still have them be good size? Guessing the reason was you don't have a door to nest check the other side, but you seem handy enough to be able to install a flap or something.

Either way, fun idea. Nice work.
