I put up a new house last season and had some moderate success in the beginning... Until the Sparrows came in! I think I have that problem solved. My concern for this year is that I have placed the pole for my Martin house inside the fence of my backyard and I have dogs. I am worried that new fledglings will fall out of the house and my dogs may injure them. Should I move the house to a location outside of my backyard fence?

I guess dogs are different. I have a border collie and a black lab. Last year I had one fledge early and they just kind of looked at it. Just be sure to have the pole pretty good distance from the fence. I've seen many poles erected on the fence etc so the top of the fence is only 6 feet from the bottom of the house. These houses, to this date, don't have martins.

As Whippy says, it depends on the dog. We have all our racks inside a 3 acre fenced area. Our two Shiloh Shepherds are used to chicken, ducks, regal songbirds. The walk freely in the chicken yard (separate fenced in). If your dog has a strong prey drive, this might create a problem for you. Use your good judgement as to what is safe or not. You're the one that owns the dog, and how it will react.

Good Luck.
