One baby needing to be hand fed

I have 3 pair this year and the eggs have all hatched 5 for each pair. I had a Raven land on the house of one and took a baby, so now I have been watching all day. Well yesterday I was doing nest checks and one of the pair have a baby that is very small and weak and very thin, so I took it out and have been handfeeding it. First day I had to open his mouth to put food in, but today he is calling and eating great. I filmed me feeding it today and will try to add the video. I hope to put it back with the pair soon. I hope ya'll like this story, it was a first for me, Mary

I found once they understand the drill they are pretty easy to feed.

That is a great story! someone mentioned dipping crickets into gatorade, if i ever get the chance will do that. good for you, put a little dab of paint on his/her toenails before you put it back that way perhaps check progress. thats good, glad you got that chance!

Thanks, I put the baby in today but had to put him or her in with a pair whose babies are 1 week behind on hatching from his original nest. He is so far behind I hope he is going to be ok. Me and my mother in law will watch him carefully, he was eating great for me when we put him in, I will keep ya'll updated on his progress. Let me tell you it was soooo awesome doing this I was happy to do it so I hope he continues to do good :grin: ,Mary
