How to show your resident state in topic posting

Martin Colony History: 9 years of trying hard...finally in 2017 I had 3 pair w/ 11 babies. T-14 +4 w/ 4 Troyer horiz. gourds. Troyer Super System 24. Fast forward to 2020... 64 fledged.

It would be nice to see the state of residence in new topic posts rather than having to click on the topic before it is revealed. A very few users do have their state identified in their initial post (e.g. James Strickland). I tried to change my profile to show my state (Pa.) in the initial post but couldn't figure how to do it. Does anyone have advice on the fix?

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

I think you are referring to your "log in username". Click on the down arrow next to your name in the upper right corner. Log out, then log back in. It shows your username & password. You need to change it from there. You may need to re-register to do this. I'm not sure.

Yes, the examples you give (James) and as you can see in Toy's name, it is not an option on the forum. They have just made it part of their screen name.

Maybe those of us that didn't use our state in our user name could simply add it to the title of our post. I think I'll try that in the future. Looking forward to a great year for everyone in our martin kingdom. Brenda

I am not sure how you change your "location" that appears under your user name/avatar. Mine still shows my old location. I went to my user CP and tried to change it in my profile and don't see how to.

Martin Colony History: Long interested in Purple Martins, pole up 2017 retired 2024 and trying harder this year!

Click the 'down' arrow by your name at the top of the page, then "Edit Profile". Mine should now have "Central" added if I did every thing correct.

I still not finding a fix other than to start all over as a new user. I did try putting "NW Pa" as a signature. Maybe that will work.

Eureaka! A fix is to add your location as a signature. It will appear every time you post at the bottom. Mine now shows "Northwest Pa"

I Eurekaed too soon. My fix does not do what I wanted i.e. putting your location in your original topic post. I'm guessing the only way to make it show would be to resubscribe to the forum (as previously suggested) and imbed your location in your screen name . I would assume you would loose your history... like how long you've been on the forum which to me isn't a big deal.

I would just leave things "as-is" instead of going through all the trouble. I think most people click on a thread based on the title/content not necessarily where the poster is from.

William is correct. Let me see if I may add a couple of things to help. I am on a PC and after accessing the PMCA you need to click on Navigate and then sign on if you are not already. Click down arrow by your "handle". Click User Control Panel and then click Profile. Scroll down to EDIT PROFILE and from there you can change your birthday, location, interests and Martin Colony History. Hope this helps. I may change my birthday so I can be 30 again! 8)

Getting everyone on board with this would be quite the task but, you can edit your signature, (see mine below) to show your City and State.

I’m surprised that someone in the administration has not read this post with the above question and has not given an answer to your request, on how to put your State ID on to your Profile name yet. May be there is no way to do it without re-subscribing under another name, ??

I went back and read what original poster (bootjack farm) wrote and realized I was not answering the right question. Sorry  I now believe the question is how to change your Username or "handle" to include your state. I believe the only entity capable of doing such could only be a site administrator. :|

I changed our user name several years ago, but can't find any way to do it now. One solution would be to begin your topic name with your state -- "KY How to show your resident state . . . ". -- John

The correct answer to the question was given immediately in this thread. The users in question have originally registered with their state as part of their username. This is not a changeable option, unfortunately.
