Hello,

Just saw my first Purple Martin of the Year. Dam, One Male and he's very happy singing up a storm. The weather has been cold and rainy, but here he is.

Don't Know if He'll stick around and he's probably going towards large colony in Lakeville. But all Good!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed

Is this the martin you saw today, or one from last year? Bird in photo is subadult, or SY for second year, and a male - that means he's a baby of last summer. These youngest martins don't usually make it back to your area til late May or June. We are just seeing them here in south Texas this week. That's one speedy bird! Adult martins will be reaching your area any time though.

Hi John
Some Martins did return to Rhode Island none of Mine yet. I did not check my sites in Rehoboth I manage over 100 gourds
there Its seems the martin is really spreading threw out South Eastern MA. Please let me know how your site is doing and
if we can add you to the state list as a landlord. The troyer gourds are a great cavity for martins I use well over 80 in Rehoboth.
If this is a first year for you odds are you will get yearlings in June. If you did have them last year this time of the year is normal
return time for the older birds. The martins nest all around you from only a few miles to way out on cape cod. There are many new
sites going up and many empty gourds you will need alot of luck to bring your first pair. There could be as many as 400 nesting pairs
pairs of Martins in South Eastern MA. They have made a major come back in the last 10 years. Best of luck! Ray

Ray,

I had played golf at your course last year and checked out all you Gourds along the 18th Hole. Is that your location???

I made a mistake here and posted wrong pictures yesterday that were from last year. I live a short distance from Lakeville, MA. and I know a lady who has a large number of Purple Martins there. The male that I saw yesterday doesn't seem to be here this morning. :-( So I'll have to see what's happening.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Haven't seen him since. Weather going to be in 70's here this week so I think they'll be in the area, I hope. And I hope I have some taking up residence where with me.
