Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows

So excited to see a ASY male come perch on top of Trio pole. Could not contain my excitement: "He's back, He's back".
First Martin I've seen this year.
He looked in a compartment but did not enter. THEN a cotton pick'n male sparrow decided he wanted that one going in & out multiple times. Put a few traps in..... Would he go in?.....No way.
Then there were 2. Then there were 3!!! Martin's that is. Cannot contain my excitement. They talked to me & we had quite a conversation. Been missing that.
Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone. He was 1 week late & had me in mourning. You all kept me hopeful. They've been in & out all day around the Trio.

Thank you thank you thank you Dave. I am shouting from the roof tops. Maybe I will eventually be able to control myself in future years. Does it ever get less than thrilling?

Martin Colony History: 2015-put up the house, as is, and no takers.
2016-Modified the house for larger rooms, added two gourds, and played the dawn song daily. First pair arrived! 5 eggs, all hatched, but only 4 babies remain. None have fledged yet, but any day now!! Update: 3 out of 5 babies made it to fledgling! All flew off!

Congrats! That's great! I hope the one that was hanging around my house this morning returns again tonight. :)

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

CONGRATS Okie :).

None here yet...still waiting thru all this darn rain :(....maybe tomorrow supposed to be nice & then more rain. Heck may even get freezing rain or snow Friday. YIKES!

Wow you all in PA. Have terrible springs. Are you sure you are not in Alaska, or how close are you to the North Pole????
Just keep in mind that old saying: Spring rains bring "PURPLE FLOWERS". LOL. Not really an old saying since I just made it up.
I guess if I was looking at a freezing rain forecast I would be happy not to have to go thru what you all did last year.
I would say be patient but I wasn't. Hard to be when it seems everyone is getting their Martins back.
I wish you a flush of purple coming soon. Good luck.

If you've got the thunderstorms Tulsa area has, he's probably hold up somewhere. Bet he'll be back tomorrow.
Where do they go in bad weather?
Hope your place turns very purple. Good luck.
