I was really getting nervous but my two founding asy males and one asy female came back this morning. I gambled last year and made some changes in my site but after some confusion one pair picked out a gourd and the lone male is sleeping alone, waiting for his girl. Hooray! Good luck to all.

Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows

How thrilling. I know you are relieved.
Have a good time with them.

Thanks for all the replies. Last year I move the rack that my birds mated in 10 ft where I had a T14 and 8 gourds. I bought a new gemini and put it where that rack was. Everybody told me not to take the chance of losing my birds but I decided to take the chance so I am thankful they adapted to the gemini. It was funny to watch them..they new something was wrong but they now seem to really like the gemini. These are truly some amazing birds.

I live in Hampstead, NC on the Intra Coastal Waterway. I have had purple martins for about the last 10 years.
We mark it on a calendar each year on what day the scout arrives as well as the colony.
For many, many years the colony has arrived every single year on the first day of Spring, around the 21st of March, but always on the first day of spring. They have not returned at all this year and I was wondering if anyone else's are arriving late this year, as I am getting really worried that I may have lost the entire colony. Not one single bird has returned this year...
Thank you for anyone who might advise me...

I have had a colony on Lake Norman 25 years. A single scout March 8 that returned daily and alone. I was concerned. Then over a dozen returned 2 days ago. I think they stayed south because of the cold spell. Even more today.
