Last week was a busy week. 6 of my final 7 nests fledged. I still have one nest left and surprisingly, it is ASY pair. I think their first nest must have failed. Normally my first nests start fledging around 4th of July, but this year it was closer to July 11th. Our spring was a bit cool and wet and I think that delayed nesting. In past years, I have had 1 or 2 nests fledge this late, but most are usually gone by end of July.
I had a tree swallow nest fledge last week as well. I have never had a tree swallow nest ever fledge later than the end of June.
Barnyard is still full of barn swallows and of course the ASY parents of my final martin nest. I think this final nest should fledge this weekend.
Overall a good season. Mr. Hawk spent a few days sitting on roof of farm buildings watching fledglings…I watched him a few times, but he failed at catching anything when I saw him, but something tells me was successful a time or two.
