I wear my Coon hunting cap light. I have a long pencil with a big eraser I put on it to move and put the leaves back with and I have the paper work done for my wife to sit in a chair and write what I tell her. That's how I do it but the birds watch me too. Some times they watch for a while then some of them will fly off like it's not a big deal. They feed in some of the gourd racks while I am checking others. But you do need some kind of a light to look with and a head light is best because it leaves your hands free. Hope that helps. My wife took some pictures of me in action.LOL!Bluetick Dave

Hey Dave, I have one of those head lights and intended to use it but didn't , I will next yr. husband is also impatient so I probably rushed because of him also. Next yr he can just patiently or not, sit and wait for the numbers as he is really keen on me doing this! I told him if he's that keen HE can dispose of the sparrows and starlings as I catch them lol thanks for the info.
