Has anybody bought the PMCA color nest camera? Im planning on putting it inside the inspection top. Has anybody done this and how is the picture inside of a gourd and does it bother the birds? Hard to hook up? Any info would be helpful before I order it.

Hi Mark,
My apologies for not replying sooner.
I've been using the PMCA color nest camera for about 4 years now.
It is a rock-solid little camera, and easy to work with.
It stays out year round (pretty well protected being inside of a gourd).
It is recommended that if you do keep it outside, even if you're not actually using it, keep at least the power plugged into it.
This helps the little unit to stay warm, and help fight off the effects any humidity, condensation, etc., may have on the internals.
It is analog, which if course means either having to view it directly with a TV that has RCA "composite" jacks (standard red/yellow/white colored connectors), or, using a video encoder that converts the signal to a digital stream that is sent and shared over a computer network.

Another thing I've learned about this little camera, is it has a very narrow field of view - meaning to see the whole nest, or more, you'll have to use something to mount the camera so it's a good 11" or more from the nest.
I'm still working on a good mounting system (the PVC and caulk methods look good, however, I'm the type that can mess up boiling water, so I'm looking for something different.)
Maybe one day, the PMCA could offer a PMCA camera mount-ready gourd lid, for the SuperGourds and Troyer Gourds?
