- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
Yeah Leslie no martins nesting here! Hopefully just a bad year to start a colony. Waiting for those fledging babies to come take a look! None of those that I have seen yet! I will be ready again next yr.

Not trying to gloat or rub it in but I am seeing a ton of Martins at my place. Had to hang around on the front porch this morning watching the Martins swirl around the gourd rack. I think a gourd is about to have some babies fly out of it. LOL, made me late for work.
So hang in there!!
Also the Barn Swallows are really thick. I need to figure out how to give them more spots to nest in. No skeeters in my yard.
Do the PMs or BSs like to overnight in a corn field? There is one right behind me. They sure like to eat the bugs just above the tops and I swear I saw them land in the corn and not come back out.

2014 8 gourds, 3 pairs nested. Ended w/ 24 total
2015 24 gourds, 22 nests. Lotsa birds!
2016 24 gourds and good activity.
2017 32 SREH gourds. Great activity.
2018 40 SREH gourds. Good finish despite big storm damage. No more dangling gourds.
2019 56+ SREH gourds, all on 3/8 rods. Birds did very well.
2020 56 SREH gourds.
