doll house cedar shakes for roof?

Has anyone used miniature cedar shakes to cover the roof of their martin house?

I know you can buy them for doll houses and I have seen some pictures on the net of bird houses with small cedar shakes?

If anyone has done this, how well do they stand-up with time and weather?

How were they installed? Just glued one? I was thinking of trying to use stainless steel staple from a staple gun along with some good adhesive (maybe liquid nails).

I love how they look, but if it's been done and proved to not be worth the time I would love to know and just avoid the disappointment....

I'm working on a T-14 and just looking for ways to make it look as good as possible.... you know so the neighbors all want one and the neighborhood is full of martins in a few years

It sure sounds like it would be pretty but keep in mind the T-14 gets a tremendous amount of bird feces on its roofs. Make sure whatever you do that it is easy to clean. Berry-laden Starling droppings are especially bad and really show up against the white roof. They are an inevitability with this house.

I was thinking if I put the small cedar shakes the droppings wouldn't be as noticable.
