Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Don't know either. I had a female show up first for the first time. Then I had an overabundance of males. More females came though. I saw where several people posted in the beginning how they had more males. I never once saw the opposite remarked on.

Curious. Makes one wonder if the gender numbers were quite a bit unbalanced this year for whatever reason.

Thanks for keeping touch. We have had probably one of the best years
ever. I gained 30 pairs to reach 90 pairs in Barrington and gained 14 more
in Rehoboth MA. 47 pairs there. four banded birds in Barrington that is weird
how so few females returned. I wonder if they got trapped here and never
returned to there northern colony. A colony at Parker river in northeast MA
has gone over to all gourds finally after 10 years of my nagging them.
I will send you many next spring dont worry about anything.

Well I have seen a shortage of females here in SW MO as well. Otherwise I would have 5 pair nesting this year :???: ... So with that, I am hoping my 2 precious babes are girls... Miss Biggy and Little Missy!

Hi Twins
They made a rare discovery in your state a new martin colony in Seabrook
the birds were in old wooden box's look on the NH state rare bird alert.
There are pictures as well. There are four colony's now in the state.
I hope people do something and add more new units.
Ray
