A red House finch has built a nest and hatched babies in an empty house in the town colony. Also a Western Kingbird is building a nest on the bottom porch of a trio near a tree that I have closed up. Have you seen that before Louise?

Also an old photo of some of the first martin houses on public property showed up. It's from 1969.. there is city record of 2 houses being purchased. This must be them...

Dorn,

I am not sure if anyone has reported a western kingbird building on a martin house porch before - I hope you'll get a photo or two. We had inca doves build on a house porch here once, and I think others have reported robins, mourning doves - a martin house is never dull!

I had a mockingbird build a nest on the porch of one of my houses a couple of years ago.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Cheery looking fellow.

Well....look at him! I think it is the town maintenance guy who is thinking now I have to put these damn houses up. !$!#@$!! One more thing this town makes me do. Although the tilt of his hat looks dapper.

Sorry to pick on him. Lord knows I take bad pictures myself. Sorry Dorn if that's your g'pa.

I love old historic pictures like this.
