Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

I have 10 purple martin nests. Four of them have a combined total of 13 eggs.

I did my nest check a little earlier than usual because one of the Trendsetter covers had come out of the track and a martin sitting in there with the compartment wide open and exposed. Kind of reminded me of that movie classic Mars Attacks...where at the end the apartment building has no wall so you can see in each floor and people keep going about their business. Remember? No? Well parts of that filmed in Kansas so of course I watched it.

When I went to lower the house martins were all over and extra chatty. Subbie males were everywhere! Ok, well at least two. It seemed like more with the way they were moving. I don't think they've been here too long.

I am using the electronic version of the data sheet and I love it! That's about it.

Thats awsome. I can't wait to have a growing colony. Tickled to death with what I have. I can only imagine how "you" feel.

I hope to create a colony as you have done.. I have read all your post. The martins are very lucky to have you as their landlord. Good luck the rest of the way.

I don’t have the perfect site. One open flyway with trees within 80 ft. I do have a small pond they utilize during the heat of Summer. (2017) HEAVY HAWK PREDATION

Deb: I have used the electronic sheet in the past and liked it also but now don't have it anymore, would you be able to give me the link for it? I have searched for it a little but can't seem to find it on line. Thanks

Martha I found it posted as one of the sticky notes at the beginning of the forum. Don't know how long it's been there. It just caught my eye. The link is listed in the first post.

Deb,

Great that you caught the problem with your trendsetter so quickly. I chuckled at your comment about the subbies and their racket. It does make one believe they have a bigger colony than you really do eh? ha ha.

Good luck girl. I hope you get more martins and are enjoying their antics.

MamaB, the good thing is...I DON'T HAVE ANY NEIGHBORS! YAY!!! But we do get traffic on our county blacktop road we live on and I know some of them have seem me out doing "weird" stuff.

I titled this my little update because when I raced to the computer to report...Gobbler T had an egg...sigh...stealing my thunder. Bahahaha!! I would trade my 13 for him to have 1. Not really that's not true...shhh.

Ha again. I would. Yes. Maybe. Sure I would.
