Two BEAUTIFUL healthy ASY's have been circling for two days, not sure of the new housing would be my guess. Didn't want to post till I was sure, but here they are in living color! The one on the bottom gourd might have a silver band on the right leg? it was getting dark, I'll try to get a better pic.

Sorry GobblerT but I'f ya come over I'll GIVE ya half of the flock FREE!

WOOO HOOO! game on!

Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

yes- great looking photos! Makes me ashamed to post those cruddy videos from my phone.. LOL

Hello Chris, yes those are gorgeous PMs! You see them sitting there in your own back yard & still can't believe they've come all the way from South America. A miracle for sure.
I, too, am interested in the type/specs for the lens u r using to get those quality photos. I've been looking at them for a while now but there are so many options.

Was up in your neck of the woods today via 130 & 79 for a retirement party at RRPD, but didn't see your martins flying overhead. Am thinking to try & get up there for your PM meet n' greet and talk with all the landlords. Sounds like a fun day and learn something too!
Congrats on your martins coming home!

Congratulations Chris!!!

We are about 50 miles South of you between Lockhart and Bastrop.
Our first scout showed up on Valentines Day.
As of yesterday, March 1, we have over a dozen staying here.
There have been waves coming thru the last two days riding the south winds.

Last year, the first scout didn't show up until March 20 so they are definitely earlier this year!

I have noticed the birds I have seen so far seem to be in good shape.
Cheers,
Joe

They will be back , sometimes they go off for several days foraging.
Don't worry they will return
