It's been a very good year for martins here in Wisconsin. After a tough 2009 season it's nice to have some positive results for a change.
I just finished my 3rd nest check of the season and I couldn't be happier! I currently have 45 pair of martins with 213 eggs laid so far. Those numbers go beyond any expectation I had for this year.

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Coingrats, its about time that the weather cooperates with you Northern landlords

Hi Tom, Great work! After last year being a tough one, the martins here in the midwest could really use a break so they can recover. Sounds like yours have come back nicely. Excellent.

HI Tom: great news for us here in Eastern Wisconsin, If u need a hand with nest replacements you could give me a call, keep your fingers crossed and hope the weather stays nice all summer!

I'm ready for all those nest replacements. I have a huge stock pile of pine straw that was collected this year. If it wasn't for the blow fly problem I certainly wouldn't do as many nest replacements as I do. I would just use sevin to control mites and monitor nests weekly. I really dislike removing their nests, each one is so unique and custom built.
