FINALLY! Young couple comes home!

I was overjoyed to finally see one of the two pairs I had last year come home! Last year I had a ASY couple of Martins which were my first to stay at my first year house. Then I has an SY couple that both had sucessfully had offspring. It looks like the older pair were lost but the younger pair showed up yesterday and made my day very happy! Maybe some of the offspring will return later I hope. I was beginning to play the "Dawnsong" because I thought I was going to have to start all over again but now I know they were late but one pair did arrive! Hope everyone gets their Martins back! :grin:

Glad to hear some birds are returning,,,,,,,,,,,,I hear this said a lot about a returning pair but more often than not it is not a pair as they most always choose new mates each year.It has been ascertained via banding that a pair will pair up the next year but it is rare.

Well Dick, you may be right but this pair returned back to the same cavity in my modified Trio as last year so I don't know. That would seem strange if they picked the same home. I must be wrong but I thought they paired up for life but I guess not! Thanks! :???:

I also thought they mated for life...That is what my father in law always told me so I believe old bird you are right.

I've been in the same boat you are in...thinking I have to start all over! It is supposed to freeze on Saturday! I had an ASY male that came last year on Feb 24th & had a mate by March 3rd. Then an SY pair came the end of March to start my colony. I've been thinking the same thing...that I have to start all over after waiting 6 years! I have been playing the dawnsong & daytime chatter now for a couple of weeks.
Sure hope my SY pair return soon... with his new purple suit!
Glad you have a pair back!!! Hope we all get some back this season!
