Just had to post that Monday evening (March 1)I was out in the yard and heard that distinct chirp and a male pm cirlced down and flew directly into a gourd like he owned it. I had put up the gourds exactly like they were last year and he flew into the same gourd that fledged 4 last season. I can't help but think this is the same male because in my limited experience martins usually seem somewhat timid about entering gourds until they have "peaked" in the hole a time or two to make sure all is clear. He just flew immediately in like he had just left- I have seen him return each evening and he was staring out this a.m. as if to say "wow it sure is cold out there." The last 2 years I have seen the first bird on March 10 or 11th. I have a couple of friends within a few miles who usually have birds a week or so before I see any and they have not had any show up yet. Hope everyone has a great pm season. Paul

Your are one of the lucky ones to get their martins back early. Most everyone is running weeks late in getting their arrivals this year.
I am happy for you, good luck to you this year!
