Martin Colony History: 2017 Had a lot visitors no Matins nesting, hoping 2018 will be different.
2018 Had 1 pair
2019 had 30 pair

:grin: Well in 7 weeks the martins will be landing here in Florida. I am starting to get everything ready. My friend next door said that I could put one of my houses up over there on his place. Lots of work to do before they come.

Ray, I get to take a longer nap than you can, it is about 25 weeks or so before they get here.
PMCA member and Martin fanatic....
2011 A pair of subbies fledged three young but none returned in 2012 :-(
2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows. :-(
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest :evil:
2019 Same old story................ :-(

Today felt like the martins were coming back or they were back....I do not know why ....but it was like martin weather.....best wishes James...I am dancing for you already. 8)

I cannot wait for these little guys.... :lol: 8) :wink:

What?!? No!! Yeoww!! About 10 weeks for me, I think, and I do have a lot of ideas I'd like to try this year.

I keep saying that I am going to let things pass for a year or two without changes, then the winter doledrums hit, and I find myself out in the shop looking for a project.

We've had no winter yet, so time's slipping by unnoticed.

Joe I do the same thing every year. I change something on my site in trying to get the martins to come and stay. This year I am doing a some big changes to my site.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.


At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

I gathered some pine straw and stored it in an old laundry basket. Storing it in my garage so April 1st I can get my houses and gourds out.

:grin: Is it funny how some are taking there house down for the season and others are putting there's back up. Flyin-lowe you talk about 900 miles, well here in FL the first bird show up in Dec and just 60 miles the birds don't show up until 4 weeks later on the east coast of FL.

lol. I imagine that by late January I'll be out on my deck searching the skies even though they don't come here til mid Feb. I'm so excited for my first real season I can't stand it. I'll just die if I don't get any. I wish I knew how many fledged from here last year. I know one day there was a huge bunch of them. My husband said, "They must have friends visiting." There's no way all of them fit in the TG12. I now know it was just before roosting and they were getting ready to leave. And I miss them.

My first happy memory in our new home was going out on the deck the first morning with a cup of coffee and there they were. I just smiled and watched them. Awesome little creatures. Can't wait to see them again.

I love your spirit and excitement :grin: :grin: :grin: In three months my martins will have been back already for a week and I will probably see the little white truck around the corner because of all my "welcome back dancing...." when the first martin arrives with all the screeching....I really do that.....outside..... :oops: :roll: :roll:

I received my first martins this year. I am curious to know when exactly they will return. The chart shows them coming here around February 1st.
I can't wait any longer.

If your birds are able to return it will most likely be two to three weeks early the next year.

:) I have a new house to put up this year. Took one house down and gave it to a friend and I bought a new one. Changing things around this year.
